False Ceiling Lighting Guide: Cove, Spot & Profile Light Layout

Plan the ceiling around the light, not after
The single biggest mistake in Indian homes is designing the false ceiling first and asking the electrician to 'add lights' later. Draw the reflected ceiling plan and lighting layer by layer — cove, ambient, task, accent — before any gypsum goes up.
Cove dimensions that actually work
For a warm, hidden glow, keep the cove at least 4 inches deep and 3 inches wide. Anything shallower shows the strip and hot-spots the ceiling.
Spotlight placement
Space downlights roughly 1/2 of the ceiling height apart. Keep them at least 12 inches away from walls unless you're deliberately wall-washing.
Profile lights for architectural lines
Recessed linear profile lights are the fastest way to make a ceiling look architect-designed. Use them to trace the edge of a passage or frame a TV wall.
